TRADITIONAL BRITISH TIME TRIAL DISTANCE TESTS RIDERS ON STAGE FIVE | ONE Pro Cycling

Stage 5 of the Tour of Britain took place in the form of an individual Time Trial in Clayton-On-Sea. Riders faced a course 16km (10 miles) in length which amongst the U.K. Racing scene is known as a very ‘traditional British time trial distance’

Rolling out of the starting house, the riders enjoyed 3km of tail wind before making a left turn and heading through the streets of Clacton for 1,500metres. On exiting the town they were faced some slight undulations in the road as they weaved through the lanes before crossing the half way checkpoint.

.

.

From there, it was around 8km into a strong head wind as riders battled their way home, pushing themselves to the limit in the aim of setting the fastest time.

The wind grew stronger throughout the event affecting the later starters and GC hopefuls. First on the ramp for ONE Pro Cycling was Pete Williams, who following his crash yesterday made his way round the course with determination, stopping the clock in a time of 21’17”, shortly followed by team sprinter Steele Von Hoff who crossed the line in 21’49”.

.

.

Next up, it was James Oram who completed the 16km course in a very respectable 20’11”, placing him 10th at that point in time. However with 50 riders still to go, it would be a tall order to hold that position as fellow Kiwi Hayden McCormick rolled off the ramp shortly afterwards, finishing in a similar time of 20’14”.

.

The final two riders to take to the course were the Polish Duo, Kamil Gradek and Karol Domagalski. Gradek was first down the ramp, battling hard in the ever-growing wind and having a fine ride to stop the clock in a time of 20’02”. Last but not least, Karol Domagalski made his way onto the course, sprinting home in a time of 20’23”.

.

.

Still feeling the effects of his crash on Stage One, Domagalski was left disappointed with his ride but is determined to deliver a strong performance in the coming stages.
