Stage One |UCI 2.1 | 3 May
Stage one of the 4th Tour de Yorkshire rolled out of the town of Beverly and wound its way south towards Doncaster. A sprint stage was fully expected for the event and as the breakaway of the day formed the sprinters teams sat back and allowed the six riders to gain a healthy advantage. Within those six was Tom Baylis making is debut at the event for ONE Pro Cycling.
Throughout the stage the break worked well together and as the peloton raced towards Doncaster they were left with a frantic chase to reel the leaders back in.
Due to the strength of the break one rider was detached but as they headed through 5km to go it was clear that the winner would come from the small breakaway group. Baylis used his strength to try and go clear but found himself leading out the sprint and crossing the line in 5th place. Sprinter Emils Liepins crossed the line 3rd in the bunch to place 8th overall putting the team in a really strong position for the next three stages.
