Stage Three |UCI 2.1 | 5 May
The third stage of the race began in the small market town of Richmond before finishing in a popular venue with the organisers Scarborough. The 184km stage featured a few tough climbs but the teams went into the race fully expecting another bunch sprint.
The breakaway went clear early and it was Yorkshire resident Pete Williams that slipped clear of the peloton. The rest of the team went about looking after the interests of team sprinter Emils Liepins in preparation for the finish.
The peloton split on the final KOM of the day as the break was reeled in, however the whole team made the front group and went about trying to control the race in prep for the sprint. Bad luck saw Emils Liepins have to stop after hitting a kerb, however he quickly got going again as the team delivered him into the final kilometre. The Latvian sprinted home in 9th place and was left tinged with disappointment. The most aggressive rider jersey once again belonged to ONE Pro Cycling as Pete Williams collected the prize for his troubles in the breakaway.
