The first stage of the Dubai Tour rolled out of the Dubai International Marine Club taking in the sights of downtown Dubai and the suburbs before heading back into the city to finish outside the spectacular Atlantis Hotel Resort on the Palm Jumeriah.
From kilometre zero there were several attacks and after only 6km of racing a breakaway of 5 riders went clear including ONE Pro Cycling debutant Tom Stewart.
Stewart established himself well in the breakaway, narrowly missing out on winning the first intermediate sprint and instead he was forced to settle for 2nd.
With eyes on the prize, Stewart was preparing for the second sprint of the day but suffered a puncture with only 2km. Battling across the line he took 2nd once again before receiving a new rear wheel.
Heading into the third and final sprint Stewart remained consistent, crossing the line in 2nd place to secure 2nd overall in the sprint classification and keeping himself in the hunt for the intermediate points jersey.
As the peloton caught the breakaway with 10km remaining, the team worked well to place sprinter Steele Von Hoff at the front of the race inside the final few kilometres.
As the sprint opened up Von Hoff crossed the line in 9th position, a very credible result in a field of World Class sprinters.
Heading into Stage 2 Tom Stewart sits 4th on the General Classification having picked up 3 time bonus in the intermediate sprints.
