The fifth and final stage of the Dubai Tour was a 124km stage taking in some of the highlights of Dubai including Dubai’s old town district.
ONE Pro Cycling started the stage with a plan to try and launch Tom Stewart into the break away to pick up all important jersey points. The team covered all the moves that were being made off the front of the peloton during the early stages of the race but found themselves heavily marked.
The break finally established 35km into the race when a four strong group broke clear and built up and advantage of a maximum of two minutes. With the peloton heavily controlled throughout the stage all the sprint points went to the riders in the breakaway.
Into the last 10km and ONE Pro Cycling were looking to set up Steele Von Hoff for the sprint whilst protecting Tom Stewart’s position on GC.
With 4km to go the break were finally caught and both ONE Pro Cycling riders were positioned well. However it was the Yorkshire man Tom Stewart who found himself on Marcel Kittel’s (Quickstep – Floors) wheel with only 1500 metres remaining.
Keeping himself positioned well Stewart crossed the line in 14th place, gaps had formed within the peloton so as the final results were counted it was confirmed that Stewart had moved himself up the overall to finish a fantastic 6th overall.
