Heistse Pijl |UCI 1.1 | 2 June
Following the final round of the Tour Series the team headed straight to Belgium for two one day races. The first being Heistse Pijl, a UCI ranked 1.1 event between Turnhout and Heiste-op-den-Berg. The 194km race saw the riders make the 80km transition to the 15km finishing circuit around the town which included a cobbled climb with just 1.5km remaining.
The team were active in the event throughout showing strong representation in breakaway moves in the closing stages of the race.
However with 10km to go the race was all back together as the team looked to set up sprinter Emils Liepins. Hayden McCormick showed patience as he waited until 2km to go before unleashing a huge lead out into the bottom of the climb with sprinters Emils Liepins and Chris Latham on his wheel. Up the climb McCormicks job was done as Chris Latham saw an opportunity to allow Emils to slip away in a small breakaway group thus sitting up and providing a gap to the leaders.
Over the top of the climb they had a small advantage over the peloton and into the closing straight Liepins was able to sprint hard down the small descent to the finishing line to secure a superb team victory and one that will stay in the mind for years to come.
